Monart aims to bring together drag artists from all regions of the country for a one-day event at the Helena Meirelles Acoustic Shell, providing the public with an experience of diversity and creativity. The event, which is funded by the Paulo Gustavo Law, from the MinC (Ministry of Culture) of the Federal Government, via a public notice from Sectur (Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism of Campo Grande), will be on September 14, 2024, within DragZona – LGBTQIAPN+ Art Festival.
“We want to showcase the most developed forms of transformation art in the country throughout the city of Campo Grande, in addition to establishing the place of transformation art within cultural institutions. We believe that institutionalizing this art, moving it from the ghettos of the LGBT community to cultural institutions, is important for the recognition of our LGBTQIAPN+ culture, as a way of legitimizing that there are branches of art that emerge through us and for us,” says Meri Moraes, one of the event’s creators.Eight performances will be selected: five national, each from a different region of the country, and three from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, including a specific spot for the capital. In addition, there will be two guest acts – one national and one regional – totaling ten performances at the event. The application must contain a link to a portfolio with artistic history, a link to a media kit and a link to the video of the intended show/performance, which does not need to be previously unreleased. Artists from the State of Mato Grosso do Sul may compete for national and regional spots by submitting an application for each category.

The selection will be made through analysis of the portfolio and the submitted show/performance. The judges will be the Drag Race production team, organizers of the Show, and the selection criteria are: originality, creativity and technical feasibility of execution and production.“We understand that the show is not a competition like the Race, and also unlike the Race, we want artists who already work in the scene and have been consolidating their work for some time”, details Meri. The selected artists will receive full support, including transportation, accommodation and meals during the event. Regional performances will receive a fee of R$500 and national performances will receive a fee of R$1,000, paid after the Showcase. The announcement of the selected artists will be made on July 30th on Instagram. @dragracing.
