Former congressman advocates openness about sexuality in video posted on X/Twitter
The satirical post came from an account called The Halfway Post, which claimed that a Grindr executive said the RNC is “basically the Super Bowl of Grindr” due to the potential surge in users in the area during the convention, suggesting that many Republicans may be in the closet.
“I’m an openly gay, unapologetic, proud conservative Republican,” Santos said. “Just come out, guys. Come on, it’s fun! You can be gay and conservative.” He added that the gay dating app would “out” people anyway, based on the number of hits in Milwaukee during the RNC.

Recently, Downdetector reported a significant increase in Grindr outages, with a large number of them occurring in the Milwaukee area, suggesting that more people than usual were using the app. In 2016, Grindr reported to Broadly that usage of the app in Cleveland spiked during the week that the Republican National Convention was held in the city.
Santos also mentioned that he met his husband through Grindr, saying: “We’ve been together for six years, going on seven, married for almost three.” He was the first openly gay Republican elected to Congress, but was expelled after a series of ethics violations and criminal allegations against him, which he denies.
A New York Times investigation previously revealed that much of Santos’ past was fabricated.
