Pele Theater Group “On the Edge of the Immensity”

The Núcleo Pele de Teatro returns to the stage with “Na Beira da Imensidão – Histórias Sul-realistas”, a show that explores narratives intertwined with Afro-Brazilian and indigenous mythologies in the depths of the Billings dam, in Grajaú. Directed by Débora Marçal and with dramaturgy by Rafael Cristiano, the play offers an immersion into the relationships of local residents with the waters that define the largest urban reservoir in the world.

Celebrating a decade of ongoing research by the collective, the show will be presented in a special season of six free performances from July 19 to 28 at CEU Navegantes. The sessions will take place on Fridays at 8 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at 6 pm. Free tickets will be distributed one hour before each performance at the venue.

“Na Beira da Imensidão” is the third chapter in the trajectory of Núcleo Pele, reaffirming its commitment to peripheral and marginal theatricality. The play invites the audience to witness how the charms of the waters of Billings influence the daily life of the neighborhood around it, addressing deep questions about identity and belonging.

Rafael Cristiano, playwright and cast member, shared: “I keep thinking about how to represent today that part of the daily lives of people on the fringes of society, which is not visible at first glance. It’s like proposing a dive into everyday peripheral life to discover the charms that we explore here.”

Débora Marçal, known for her work at the Capulanas theater and the Makuas dance group, brings an innovative approach to directing, using a “mirror of water” as a scenic metaphor to explore the layers of meaning present in the work.
