According to Variety, a sequel to the iconic film is in the works at Disney, with Streep and Blunt set to reprise their legendary roles. According to Puck, the new film will follow Miranda Priestly “at the end of her career, facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing.” Blunt’s character, Emily, will have evolved from a chaotic assistant to an executive at a luxury group, akin to Kering or LVMH, with advertising opportunities that could save Priestly’s beloved Runway magazine.
There is currently no confirmation about Anne Hathaway’s participation in the sequel. However, the trio recently reunited at the SAG Awards, much to the delight of fans. The actors reunited on February 24 to present the award for best actor in a comedy series. Blunt compared Streep to her character at the event, saying that they are “like twins.” Streep joked that she doesn’t think she looks like Miranda Priestly, to which Hathaway interjected: “No, no, that wasn’t a question.”
Hathaway and Blunt continued to tease Streep, with Blunt using one of Priestly’s famous quips: “Anyway, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me.”
