Bills with specific serial numbers are highly prized by collectors, and a recent auction showed just how valuable they are.
At a recent charity auction, a £10 note featuring King Charles III issued by the Bank of England sold for £17,000. This was reported by The Sun.
Its uniqueness lies in the serial number ending in the digits “01”, as these are the first banknotes of this type. Traditionally, the bill numbered HB01 000001 is kept by the king himself, while the bill numbered HB01 000002 always goes to the queen. However, this time it did not go to Camilla, but was sold at auction.
Other notable sales included notes numbered: HB01 000003 for £5,500, HB01 000004 for £2,400, HB01 000005 for £3,200 and HB01 020006 for £2,700.
Banknotes with specific serial numbers are highly prized by collectors, and this auction highlights just how valuable they are. For example, bills with multiple eights in the serial number or ending with “111111” usually attract high bids from collectors.
It was previously reported that on the occasion of British Armed Forces Day, the royal family published a new official portrait of King Charles III.
