New unreleased song comes from the “My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross” sessions
“I’m performing a series of shows in Mexico, the US and Canada this fall. It’s the first time I’ve toured since 2016, and the first time with a band in 14 years. I feel like I want to sing to people, affirm that these times are unprecedented, and maintain and express a sense of what’s really going on,” explains ANOHNI about her decision to tour again.
Born in the United Kingdom and raised in Amsterdam and California, ANOHNI moved to New York in her late teens, forming her group The Johnsons in 1998 and establishing a unique path as an artist focusing on animist and ecofeminist themes. ANOHNI’s musical journey has spanned multiple genres, from experimental electronic to avant-classical, dance and soul.
In the same year, she was nominated for an Oscar for best song for the environmental elegy “Manta Ray”, featured in the film Racing Extinction (directed by Louie Psihoyos, 2015). ANOHNI has collaborated with a number of pioneering musicians throughout her career, including Hercules & Love Affair, Björk, Oneohtrix Point Never, Yoko Ono, Mykki Blanco, Cocorosie, Neneh Cherry, Lou Reed, Marianne Faithfull, among others.
ANOHNI’s sixth studio album, “My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross” (2023), continues to examine social structures, spirituality, and our relationships with the biosphere. The album was considered album of the year by The New Yorker and The Toronto Star. Politiken awarded it five hearts and called it “a delicate flame lit by the soul music of the past”, while GAFFA characterized it as “an otherworldly experience”.
