The City Council of Manaus, capital of Amazonas, analyzes Bill No. 166/2024, proposed by councilor Professor Jacqueline (União Brasil), which aims to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in commercial establishments and public bodies in the city . The project establishes the obligation to post informative notices in places visible to the public, warning against discriminatory practices.
According to the text, public and private establishments, as well as administrative bodies, must post information signs prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. These signs must be placed outside or at one of the entrances to the establishments. Furthermore, at the end of the notice, information must be included on the means for clarifications, reports and complaints related to discrimination.
“We are here in parliament seeking to guarantee the rights of all citizens of this city, encouraging awareness and promoting equal rights for all individuals,” stated Jacqueline.
For the councilor, the proposal aims not only to curb discriminatory practices, but also to promote an inclusive and respectful environment for all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
