In Salvador (BA), Cine Fur-TRANS-Cor aims to expand LGBT+ representation in cinema. Between May and November 2024, 14 sessions will be held at Cineclube Fur-TRANS-Cor, focusing on trans, transvestite and non-binary narratives. The sessions will be held fortnightly on Tuesdays at the Museum’s Saladearte Cinema, offering free entry for trans people and half-price for non-trans people.
The curation was designed to present different narratives about trans identities in their different life contexts. The films shown will feature a variety of film genres, including road films, thrillers, dramas, comedies, animations, romances, teen films and documentaries, reflecting the plurality of trans experiences.
An important curatorial concern is authentic representation, avoiding the practice of “trans fake”. Therefore, 86% of the films chosen are starring trans people, who bring their experiences to construct more believable narratives. However, works that enrich the debate will also be shown, even without trans protagonists.
Furthermore, we seek to transcend the transgender theme, presenting films starring trans people that address other issues in their plots, expanding the occupation of spaces.
To guarantee everyone’s access to the films, all sessions will have subtitles, and there will be two sessions with audio description, promoting the inclusion of everyone in the conversation.
The project was covered by the Paulo Gustavo Bahia Notices and has financial support from the Government of the State of Bahia, through the Secretariat of Culture, via the Paulo Gustavo Law, directed by the Ministry of Culture of the Federal Government. Paulo Gustavo Bahia (PGBA) was created to implement emergency actions to support the cultural sector, in accordance with Complementary Law No. 195, of July 8, 2022.
