Education wants to expand the agenda of labor rights negotiations for LGBT+ workers
Expanding the agenda of labor rights negotiations for LGBT+ workers is one of the decisions taken during the meeting of the CNTE Collective (National Confederation of Education Workers) in Vitória (ES), on the 9th and 10th. series of defined paths, which also includes a seat on the National Human Rights Committee.
Keila Simpson, president of the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (Antra), emphasized the importance of collective action, the need for joint responsibility in the fight for LGBT+ rights.
Keila shared her life experience and trajectory at the event, which also included visits to partner organizations and the presence of political leaders committed to the cause. “It is important to understand that the advances we have achieved to date are the result of strong and joint actions by unions, social movements, academia.”
According to her, “it is essential to hold the different converging segments – social and trade unions – accountable in the fight to guarantee the rights of LGBT+ people. We are in a new political moment, however, still in a difficult context, and it is up to us, who We defend democracy, strengthen it.”
Keila also pointed out that “the path to transforming this reality also involves basic political training: showing young people that politics makes a difference in our lives, and that through it it is possible to resist and fight against extremism and conservative discourse” , assessed Keila.
The president is one of the greatest human rights activists in Brazil, has visited four continents and, in 2022, became the first transvestite in the country to receive the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, an honor granted by the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj ).
Due to the environmental tragedies in Rio Grande do Sul, some entities in the region were unable to participate in the meeting. The CNTE and the entities demonstrated solidarity with the entire population of Rio Grande do Sul.
The meeting culminated in the approval of activities in reference to the International Day to Fight LGBTphobia, celebrated on May 17, and in steps to strengthen the collective fight for LGBT+ rights.

– Promote the creation of LGBTQIA + Collectives in affiliated unions.
– Intensify the actions and mobilizations of the 17M campaign (May 17th – International and National Day against LGBTphobia).
– Collaborate in the organization of Municipal and State LGBTQIA+ Conferences in preparation for the National Conference in 2025
– Guarantee a seat for the CNTE on the National Human Rights Committee.
– Request the MEC to participate in the Working Group to discuss violence against LGBT+ people
– Expand the agenda of negotiations on labor rights for LGBT+ workers, such as: ensuring that they remain in the workplace free from prejudice and discrimination.
