“Transresistance: trans people in the job market”, by Caê Vasconcelos
How many trans people are in your life? How many work alongside you? If you, like the majority, answered “none”, you may not know that Brazil is the country that kills this population the most in the world. An extermination that, as a society, we cannot continue to ignore.
It is in this scenario that the book “Transresistencia: trans people in the job market” appears, by Caê Vasconcelos, a trans man, writer, screenwriter and presenter at “Dia Estúdio”. The author is the first trans journalist at ESPN Brasil, he was a reporter at UOL Notícias, Ponte Jornalismo and Agência Mural de Jornalismo das Periferias.
There is no doubt that being a trans person in Brazil means resistance. Hence the title. Caê Vasconcelos intends to contribute to the visibility of trans and transvestite people, going against the conservative current – including a strand of feminism – that insists on invalidating their existence and humanity.
It addresses how trans and transvestite people often face difficulties within the family space. From the outside, their exclusion persists in the absence of basic rights such as health, education, housing and work. The latter, a clear symptom of our structural transphobia, is the theme that weaves together the profiles gathered in the work.
