Director Juliana Rojas was invited to join the Queer Palm jury after being awarded with “City; Countryside”
The Cannes Festival announced on Monday, April 29, the jury in charge of analyzing and rewarding films that address sexual and gender diversity, selected for the event that will take place from May 14 to 25, in France. In the previous edition of the festival, the film “Monster”, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, was awarded the Queer Palm, recognizing its narrative about love and friendship between two teenagers. Additionally, “Monster” also received the prestigious Palme d’Or for best screenplay.
Director Juliana Rojas was invited to join the Queer Palm jury after being awarded in Berlin for her work on “City; Countryside”. The feature film, scheduled to premiere at the beginning of the second semester in Brazil, was one of the three finalists at the Teddy Awards, which recognize works with LGBT themes, and since March it has enjoyed a successful trajectory at international festivals.
Rojas will have as co-workers Belgian filmmaker and screenwriter Lukas Dhont, who will preside over the jury, along with French actor, director and drag queen Hugo Bardin/Paloma, British-Palestinian journalist Jad Salfiti and French director and actress Sophie Letourneur.
“Cidade; Campo” is a production by Dezenove Som e Imagens, with co-production by Globo Filmes, Telecine, Spcine, Quanta, Canal Brasil, O2 Pós, Vitrine Filmes, Sutor Kolonko (Germany) and Good Fortune Films (France). The film has support from Ancine, Spcine, Fundo Setorial do Audiovisual and Instituto Olga Rabinovich, via Projeto Paradiso, and will be released in cinemas by distributor Vitrine Filmes.
Queer Palm was established in 2010 with the purpose of highlighting LGBT-themed works selected by the Cannes Festival, covering several sections of the event, including Um Certo Olhar, Critics’ Week, Directors’ Fortnight and Acid – Association for the Diffusion of Independent Cinema.
