Golnes is trying to adopt a new constitution for Jamaica that would make the country a republic without a monarchy.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been embroiled in controversy after posing with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Golness, who has previously said he intends to abdicate the monarchy. The Daily Mail reported this.
In particular, they were photographed with the politician on the red carpet when he arrived in Kingston for the premiere of the new movie about Bob Marley, One Love.
Their visit therefore came as a surprise, as Jamaica continues to move forward with its plan to cut ties with the British monarchy due to a referendum that will take place this year.
It is noted that the meeting took place at a time when Kate Middleton was recovering in the hospital after stomach surgery, and King Charles III was preparing for prostate surgery.
“Under normal circumstances, there’s nothing wrong with them going to a movie premiere. But at a time when his father is under the knife and Jamaica is screaming about the fall of the monarchy, it’s a little indifferent,” said the comments.
It will be recalled that the Prime Minister has long criticized Jamaica’s relationship with the Commonwealth of Nations and the British monarchy. In 2022, he announced that his country wants to be independent. Golnes also told Prince William and Kate Middleton that they will not be king and queen of his island nation.
