Through an official document, Pope Francis authorized same-sex marriage
O Pope Francis proposed a significant change in the Catholic Church and an important step for the LGBTQIAPN+ community.
This Monday, the 18th, the Vatican announced that, from now on, Catholic priests can bless the marriages of same-sex couples.
Through an official document, the Pope’s decision was communicated worldwide and explained.
Priests can bless couples, but they can also refuse to do the blessing. However, they cannot, in any way, prevent people in any situation from entering churches in search of God’s help through a blessing.
The text explained that blessings are not considered the traditional marriage ritual and should not take place in contexts associated with these types of ceremonies.
The Pope also signaled that, although the Catholic Church still classifies the union between same-sex couples as irregular, the blessing is an important moment for the divine welcome of all people.
