Visual artist, performer and costume designer, the drag persona of Vinícius Andrade, 31, from Rio de Janeiro, took the aesthetics of carnival and Afrofuturism to the top of the competition
The drag making machine, Organzzawas the winner of the first edition of the reality show Drag Race Brazil, airing on Paramount Plus and MTV. The drag queen from Rio, created by the artist Vinícius Andrade31 years old, was crowned in a fierce final competition, winning the prize of R$150,000.
Throughout the program, Vinícius won three victories, being the one who overcame the most challenges in the season, and stood out with his performances and fashionista looks, with artistic and philosophical inspirations from carnival, Afrofuturism and valuing his origins.
“Winning Drag Race Brasil was more than just a dream come true, it was the certainty that it is allowed to dream, that people like me can reach all the places they want. I definitely didn’t win this competition alone, I won with all the black, poor and peripheral people who arrived here with me, in addition to the entire local and national drag scene, which has always been very undervalued”, said the queen, born and raised in Coelho Neto, North Zone of Rio.
Visual artist, performer, costume designer and model are some of the jobs that Vinícius accumulates in his artistic career, which began in theater. Drag art came in 2018, with its first “montage”. Since then, Organzza has won several competitions, participated in the soap opera “Verão 90” and in the music video “Dia D”, by Clarice Falcaoand is a well-known figure in Rio and São Paulo nightlife, performing at parties such as V de Viadão, Drag Brunch and Realness, where she has opened drag shows such as Mo Heart and Miz Cracker.
“Today, being the first winner, carrying what I carry and representing what I represent is, in fact, the consolidation of everything I did to get here. And I will remain firm in my purpose”, said the artist from Rio de Janeiro, who is also part of the collective Casa de Cosmos, from the ballroom scene in Rio de Janeiro.
During the Drag Race Brasil season, Vinícius visited more than 10 Brazilian states performing at parties and events. Before the program, he had never even been on a plane. Now, with a full show schedule, he wants to see more places around Brazil and hopes that the first season of Drag Race Brasil will strengthen local drag scenes across the country.
“Drag art has always been very undervalued in Brazil, unlike how it is abroad, so I hope that the program has shown the importance and richness of our art, and that it has awakened in the public the desire to follow the scene more closely drag”, he stated.
