On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Nikon Sukhoi. Nikon was a monk at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and in 1096 he was captured by the Polovtsian prince Bonyak. The nomads hoped to receive a large ransom for the monk, but their hopes were in vain.

Nikon spent three years in captivity, constantly praying, and thanks to this he gained freedom. The terrible torture caused the monk to lose weight. This is why he received his nickname – Sukhoi.
