In the Orthodox calendar, December 5 is the day of remembrance of St. Savva. He was born in 439 in Cappadocia and lived in a monastery from the age of eight. He is distinguished by his obedience, humility, silence and chastity. He was appointed by Monk Sergei as confessor of the brothers and later became abbot of several monasteries, especially Storozhevsky and Zvenigorod. He also compiled the first rule of the monastic “Divine Service Rules” (Jerusalem Typikon). He died in 532 and was glorified as a miracle worker.
