The 17.61-carat Bleu Royal is adorned with a gold ring flanked by two diamonds on either side.
The ultimate blue diamond went under the hammer for $43.8 million at Christie’s rare jewelry auction in Geneva. It was reported by Reuters.
The vibrant blue diamond set in the ring, known as the Bleu Royal, is one of the rarest ever found. Before the sale, the 17.6-carat stone was valued at $50 million.
Max Fawcett, Christie’s head of jewellery, said the diamond was unique because of its deep, rich blue color and consistent pear shape.
“It really met all the criteria, so we were able to attract collectors all over the world, from the Far East to America. We are very happy with the result,” he said.
It was previously reported that a unique pink diamond, the most valuable and brightest of its kind, will be auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York.
