The actor Omar Ayuso25 years old, is part of the cast of the Netflix series Elite, and, in conversation with THR, the actor spoke about the responsibility of playing a gay Muslim in addition to talking about how the character can help the acceptance of people from the LGBTQIAPN+ community in society.
“You feel a responsibility as an actor to build the character and convey certain things to a character with a certain reality. There is a moral responsibility”, he said.
“You have to be honest; you have to start from an honest point of view, especially if you’re talking about a minority that has been marginalized over time. Everything you do has to help them get to a better place.”said.
Furthermore, Omar commented on the affection of fans who send messages telling their life stories and how they identify with his character.
“I would say that in my day-to-day life, being a gay man in Spain is also a responsibility that I feel in the way I behave. There’s something beautiful about fan feedback,” he spoke.
“I think one of the few good things you can say about social media is that you receive messages from distant cultures that have nothing to do with you, from people you don’t know and who convey the difficulties of trying to be who they are, and realizing that your work can mean so much in other people’s lives is something really rewarding”he added.
