After Chamber Pensions and Social Assistance Committee approve the Bill that aims to prohibit same-sex marriage in Brazil, Deputies from the same Commission are studying the prohibition of the “recognition of poly-affective unions” in registry offices in the country.
There are three projects that are being processed in the Chamber of Deputies, incorporated into PL 4302/2016, by the federal deputy Vinicius Carvalhowhich prohibits the recognition of polyaffective unions.
The project, number 10312/2018, by the deputy Professor Victório Galli, aims to prohibit stable unions between more than two people, whether they are of the same sex or not. In addition, PL 10809/2018, by deputy Francisco Florianowhich aims to prevent the registration of polyaffective families in a registry office, and, finally, PL 309/2021, made by the deputy José Neto, which prevents the characterization and recognition of the new stable union relationship in the Civil Code.
“It is our understanding that our Constitution and our society do not allow for unrestricted flexibility in the institutions of stable union and marriage. We are, therefore, for the unconstitutionality of any attempt to establish the so-called ‘polyaffective’. It is established that the family is the basis of society and that it deserves special protection from the State”, he said Filipe Martins.
According to the magazine Lookthe chairman of the commission, Fernando Rodolfo decided to include the matters on the Chamber’s agenda, and the members of the Commission will discuss the matter in the coming weeks.
One of the points to be discussed by the deputies should be the decision of a judge from Rio Grande do Sul who authorized the civil union of a three-year-old couple, the marriage was between a man and two women.
The decision took place at the end of August this year and, as a result, the child that one of the women is bearing will have the right to multiparental registration and will be named after both mothers and the father.
“As president of the Commission, I have to meet the demands of the collegiate,” explained Rodolfo when talking about the inclusion of the project in the agenda.
