“A great setback, inhumane and revolting!”

Last Tuesday, the 10th, a bill was approved in the Chamber of Deputies that prohibits same-sex marriage and stable unions between people of the same sex. With 12 votes in favor and just 5 against, the project goes to other committees before reaching the Plenary. Experts point out that, if approved, the PL is likely to be considered unconstitutional and not affect marriages already performed. However, for the artistic director Ale Monteirosuch an event is already an alarming proof of the prejudice and regression that society still finds itself in.

“What we are experiencing is a huge setback. Developing a bill to ban love is completely inhumane, cruel and, I agree, unconstitutional. This is what happens when we have unqualified people with no emotional intelligence in positions of power. That alone explains this type of attitude,” he said.

Admittedly gay, Ale has a place of speech and, therefore, revealed that he is in the midst of a mix of feelings.

“I feel sadness, shame and also a little revolt knowing that we are still experiencing the consequences of a pandemic and, even so, we are seeing an avalanche of people less and less connected to each other. I believe this is also an influence for this to happen, you know?! People are so focused on their cell phones, their own navels and their own interests, that they no longer have the ability to look fondly at others, to celebrate love and life. It’s all very sad,” lamented.

He, who has already revealed that he suffered prejudice due to his sexual orientation, explained that people love each other regardless of the gender they identify with: “Homosexuality has never existed and will never exist. What exists is an object of desire aimed at another person who may or may not have been born with the same sexual organ. Having this idea that a man has to be with a woman and a woman has to be with a man is a retrograde, massive and completely outdated idea. It even gets ridiculous and, when I see this, I blame it on intellectual dishonesty!”

Ale completed, in a lamenting tone, reinforcing that the most important thing should be, in all cases, love.

“Everything that is happening is a reflection of the Brazil we live in, of the prejudiced nation in which we are included and of the people who are in power and who think they can decide how people will express their feelings. What they don’t understand is that love has no gender, no sex, no label. Love is love and always will be.” finished.
