The vice-director of the Faculty of Law of Recife is an option for the Federal Supreme Court
Antonella Galindo She is a professor at the Faculty of Law of Recife in addition to being part of the board of directors at the Federal University of Pernambuco and can now become the first transsexual woman to be part of the Federal Supreme Court.
In 132 years, the STF has had only three women as ministers, all of them white and none openly LGBTQIAPN+, but now that is about to change.
The professor spoke with iG Queer and spoke about the importance of representation in the court, in addition to being extremely happy with being appointed to the position.
“I know I have an extensive career within the Law, but when people at the head of LGBTQIAP+ organizations approached me to promote my name and be noticed by the president, it was a joy,” he spoke.
“We have the STF and we have the Constitution, which have very advanced norms, in the sense of emphasizing equality and social justice, but how are these norms interpreted? This is why representation is important, not just notable legal knowledge,” he stated.
“A Court that will judge people from the most diverse social segments, is a Court in which these segments must also be present within it”, he said.
