The writer is called one of the most important voices of modern Ukrainian literature, describing the war of conquest against our country.
Ukrainian poet and musician Sergei Zhadan received an award from the Swedish PEN Club – the Kurt Tucholsky Prize for his contribution to freedom of speech. It was reported on the organization’s website.
In particular, he has been called one of the most important and expressive voices of modern Ukrainian literature, describing the entire Russian invasion of Ukraine while at the same time allowing art to make the world a better place.
“In the complete invasion of Russia, Sergei Zhadan became the voice of an independent Ukraine. His tireless work shows the important role that literature can play even under the most difficult conditions,” said the Swedish leader PEN Kerstin Almegaard.
The award ceremony will take place in Stockholm on Prisoners’ Writers’ Day on November 15th.
It should be noted that the Kurt Tucholsky Prize, a German anti-fascist writer, was established by the Swedish PEN club in 1985. Prize winners get the opportunity to live in Sweden and engage in literary creativity.
It was previously reported that Sergei Zhadan received the Sergio Vieira de Molla Prize dedicated to human rights.
