Award-winning American guitarist Al Di Meola suffered a heart attack while performing in Romania. This was reported by The Associated Press referring to representatives of the clinic.
It was noted that the musician is in a stable condition. The hospital said in a statement that he was admitted to the cardiology department where he was being treated for segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Photographer Dragos Cristescu, who was present at the concert, said he saw Di Meola clutching his chest during the performance, and the guitarist struggling to leave the stage. The remaining two members of Di Meola’s trio continued to play for a few more minutes until they announced that the performance would be interrupted.
In turn, Al Di Meola thanked the fans for their words of support, adding that he was forced to cancel performances until the end of 2023.
“Unfortunately, I am faced with a medical situation that requires time off from performing and touring. I want to assure you that I am receiving the best possible care and I am fully committed to making a full recovery, “said the artist in a statement.
