The bill was proposed by Brisa Bracchi and was sanctioned in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte
Lesbian Visibility Day is celebrated on the 29th, and the Week Against Lesbophobia was sanctioned last Wednesday, the 12th, and will come into effect on the official calendar of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte.
the councilwoman Breeze Bracchifrom the PT, took the initiative of the bill that intends to inform the population about the violence suffered specifically by women who have an affective or sexual relationship with other women.
“For us to be able to put an end to the harsh reality of lesbocide and lesbophobia, society needs to assume this confrontation. And this law is precisely aimed at promoting campaigns, activities and public actions so that we can build a culture of non-violence against lesbian women in Natal and elsewhere”, explains the councilwoman.
Lesbocide is a nuance of femicide that targets the lives of lesbian women through lesbophobia.
The purpose of the law differentiates the types of violence faced by men and women who form the LGBTQIAP+ population.
“Cases of lesbocide are different from cases of homophobia, even though both are motivated by prejudice against non-heterosexual people, or people who do not conform to the norms of what is understood as what should be feminine and masculine, the so-called heteronormativity”, said the project.
“This difference is based on the specificities of the condition of being a lesbian and gender hierarchies, that is, the asymmetrical power relations between men and women in society”cites the project.
