Joe Locke commented on his sexuality and claimed the media jumped to conclusions before he made a statement.
Netflix released the second season of hearstopperwhere it addresses the story of two friends, Charlie and Nick, who discover that there is something beyond friendship and deal with the problems of school and love life.
The actor joe locke, who plays Charlie in the series, spoke about his sexuality in an interview with Vougue Teen. Just like his character, Joe is also gay, which doesn’t come as a surprise to his fans.
Since the premiere of the series, journalistic articles about the actor treat Joe’s sexuality as common sense, in the chat with Vougue, the actor revealed that he never specified his sexuality publicly.
“People concluded and wrote. I never corrected anyone because I didn’t feel the need to. But I never specified my sexuality (in interviews)”,he told.
“I’ve been openly gay since, like, 12 years,” he revealed that he disagrees with the idea that actors need to give up their privacy because of fame.
That’s because your fellow cast member, Kit Connorsaid he felt forced to assume his bisexuality after public pressure on his social networks.
“There’s this idea that part of the job is losing your privacy, this idea that you lose your right to privacy. This is something that I hope the next generation of people in the public eye can change… I think people are understanding that privacy is non-negotiable”, commented Joe.
