The UK Picture Editors Guild awards showcase pictures dedicated to the war in Ukraine.
The jury of the British Guild of Photo Editors for the title Picture of the year selected the 20 best shots, of which three are devoted to the full-scale war in Ukraine. This is discussed on the guild website.
It is noted that one of these was made by military photographer Juliana Simmonds. In the photo, two Ukrainian defenders who held the defense of Kharkiv in February 2022 take a break between Russian shelling.
The second work was presented by Maya Smeykovskaya. It depicts a female refugee from Ukraine who arrived by train in Przemysl in March 2022.
The third photo was taken by Jack Gill in a hospital in Kharkov. His heroine is a woman who suffered from Russian shelling.
The list of photo nominees also includes photos of the royal family. Among them: Prince Louis on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, a portrait of King Charles III in his office and the funeral of Elizabeth II. There is also a frame where the national football team of Argentina, which won the 2022 World Cup.
Traditionally, the winner will be chosen by voting, which will last until September 5th. The results will be announced on 16th October.
