The gunman went through the steel garden gates of the actor’s £3.5 million estate.
An unknown man armed with a knife entered the home of British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. The attempted murder took place on an estate in North London. The attacker threatened the star’s family, according to the Daily Mail.
Cumberbatch, his wife Sophie Gunther and their three children were at home and heard the screams of the intruder outside. He tried to break down the door.
“I know you moved here, I hope it burns,” shouted the man, took one of the burners and threw it against the wall of the house, and then tore the intercom and spat on it.
The actor called the police, but the attacker fled. But investigators quickly identified the suspect due to DNA evidence left at the crime scene.
The attacker turned out to be 35-year-old Jack Bissell. He previously worked as Executive Chef at the five-star Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair. However, he was later arrested, fined £250 and sentenced to a three-year restraining order to stay away from the Cumberbatch family and their premises.
The truth is that Bissell allegedly told the owner of the store closest to the star’s house that he was going to enter Cumberbatch’s house and set it on fire. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced on May 10.
“Naturally the whole family was completely terrified and thought this person was going to come in and hurt them. Luckily it didn’t come to that. Benedict and Sophie have had many sleepless nights since they started -worry that they could be targeted again. The fact that this is a targeted attack makes it even scarier,” said Cumberbatch’s friend.
It will be remembered that the star of Sherlock Holmes supported the initiative of the British government House for Ukraine and said that the Ukrainian family has left Britain to live in his mansion.
