National Adoption Day: Rafa and Luke talk about how the attitude transformed their lives

“Adoption or not, the arrival of a child in anyone’s life, being a couple or not, is transformative! Our experience within the adoption of our little one was and is VERY intense. There is no type of course, preparation or emotional structure able to measure what we feel when a child arrives in our life. You are never born prepared to be a parent, you prepare yourself during this journey with your child. It is a relationship, a construction of this feeling between parents and children.”they said.

The boys, who are an example beyond the LGBTQIA+ community, spoke about the lessons that adoption brought.

“What we learned a lot during these 2 years that we’ve been with Kauan is that every day we learn something new, every day is a new challenge, every day you love this ‘little human’ being even more. An important thing is that what really needs to be said/written is that you don’t love right away, that it’s not this bed of roses that people paint and that the process of educating a child is very difficult. Another learning was that we don’t have to give up of our dreams, of our wishes when you have a child, you do need to include him in your routine and adapt your routine with him and make this moment natural for both of you.”, they said.

The little one’s parents commented on the lessons that the son taught them in that time together.

“Kauan transformed our lives in every way possible, he matured us, he made us see a side of life and we understood that what we lived in our bubble was just a small piece of what life really is.”they said.

Rafa and Luke know they will have many challenges ahead, but they confessed that they are ready to face them all.

“We are sure that many things will still happen, but it will be great to be able to share this story with our son.”they said.
