Germany will buy millions of tons of liquefied natural gas from the US

The partnership between RWE and Sempra Infrastructure will help improve the security of gas supplies in Europe.

The big German energy concern RWE has signed a memorandum on the annual supply of 2.25 million tonnes of LNG (3.1 billion cubic meters) from American Sempra Infrastructure. It was reported on the company’s website on Wednesday, May 25th.

The document provides for the construction of the Port Arthur LNG terminal in the Gulf of Mexico. The parties will continue negotiations and conclude a 15 -year contract. The German concern is to pick up the shipment from the USA and ship it to anywhere in the world.

This partnership will contribute to the diversification of the gas supply portfolio of RWE and Germany and thus increase the reliability of supplies in Europe on a long-term basis, the message said, emphasizing the importance of achieving of independence from fuel supplies from Russia.

It was previously reported that Germany was in talks with Senegal on gas supplies to reduce energy dependence on Russia. This is what German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on his first trip to Africa.
