Some companies and professions accept this hairstyle better in their professional routine.
It is still common for some people to think long and hard before coloring their hair with more striking colors, for fear of being rejected in the job market. However, for many companies, this is not the most relevant; however, of course, this will depend on the field of activity.
Renato Costa, executive director of Intelligence Voulez, clarifies that hair colored blue, purple, pink or green, common on the streets, is still not accepted in companies considered to be traditional. “However, in areas such as advertising, design or fashion, they are not as shocking and, in some cases, even show a bit of style”, he clarifies.
Colorful but well maintained
Colored hair can even convey the idea of a safe, laid-back professional, but for that, you need to be well maintained. “Hair is considered the frame of the face and can both enhance and devalue your appearance. Badly cared for hair, dull, uncut, undyed, shows sloppiness and compromises the appearance and the way you present yourself”, warns Renato Costa. Roots in need of retouching, dry tips yellowish or too reddish due to lack of care can give a bad image.
The two sides of the market
There are still areas (such as administrative, legal and financial areas) that call for more traditional attire and posture. “What you can’t do is want to work in an area that culturally has habits, ways that are very different from what you take for granted. Surely there will be a conflict of standards”, explains Andrea Deis, career mentor.
If the company you’re with doesn’t accept your style, maybe you haven’t found the right place yet. “I’ve always worked in areas where the alternative look just added to it. I was a designer, costume designer, stylist, owner of my own company and TV presenter”, says presenter Marimoon.
New Horizons
If you’re really doing something you love and your style doesn’t fit, maybe you can look for alternatives. “If I had a job where colored hair was an issue, I think I would wear a natural wig in the work environment,” reveals Marimoon. The key is to choose a company that has the values you believe in. If your world is colorful, ideally your profession and company should be too. So look for one match you.
Company values and personal values
According to executive director Renato Costa, the company has the right to have rules for clothing, behavior and conduct, in accordance with the segment, profile, culture, institutional values and market positioning. “From the moment a person accepts to work in a certain company, is hired as an employee, he needs to adapt to the rules. The manual of conduct and dress codeif any, must be clear to the employee, and he must comply with these rules”, he explains.
What does your hair color convey?
The tip is to always evaluate the company you want to work for and choose an area in which you are free to express yourself. There are indeed companies that will accept your profile. Colored hair can be fashion, freedom, among other things. “In the case of some professions, there are areas that allow a little more daring and not just colored hair, but piercings, tattoos, beards and other accessories are also allowed, as they do not interfere with the area or the performance of the function”, analyzes Renato Coast.
