Dalai Lama apologizes for the moment he asked a boy to suck his tongue
Dalai Lama spoke after a video of him reverberated on social networks. On record, the spiritual leader kissed a child on the mouth and then asked the boy to suck his tongue.
The whole situation happened during an event in North India on February 28th.
In an official statement released on Monday, the Dalai Lama’s office apologized to the boy, his family and everyone who felt offended by the leader’s words. In addition, he also said that he regrets what happened.
“His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and on camera,” said the message.
The apology was published after the video of the moment, which took place in Dharamshala in February, went viral on social media and many netizens detonated the Dalai Lama’s stance.
In the video, the child approached the leader and asked if he could hug him. Then, Dalai Lama invites the boy up on stage and points to his cheek, saying that it would be there first, so the boy gives him a kiss and a hug.
Then the leader points to his lips and says: “So I guess finally here too.” He pulls the child by the chin and kisses him on the mouth.
“And suck my tongue”, says the leader, sticking out his tongue.
