Cocoa, in addition to being good for health, is also a powerful antioxidant and moisturizer for the skin.
Easter is here and that means that the time has come to gather the family and celebrate that date. And what can’t be missing? The chocolate! But did you know that cocoa also has an aesthetic purpose, it is an excellent asset to detoxify and hydrate the skin? I explain the benefits and even bring you a recipe with a chocolate mask for you to make at home.
What are the benefits of chocolate for the skin?
Chocolate with more than 70% cocoa, the one with the highest concentration of the ingredient, is rich in antioxidants that help fight free radicals, which are the main causes of premature aging. In addition, it has vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, which hydrate the skin, improving its vigor, shine and softness.
What is the best chocolate?
The ideal, both for eating and for use on the skin, is to opt for cocoa classified above 70%, as it does not go through as many refinement processes, has little fat and does not contain sugar.
How to use chocolate in my skincare routine?
Opt for products that have actives in their composition such as theobroma cacao (scientific name for cocoa), but remember to read the label to understand if the product is pure or if it just has the aroma and artificial coloring of chocolate. You can complement the care with a homemade recipe, which can be used on the face and body. Check out the step-by-step below.
homemade chocolate mask
200 grams of chocolate over 70% cocoa
1 tablespoon 100% natural oil (pumpkin seed, sunflower and coconut)
Start by melting the chocolate in a double boiler. Then add your chosen oil and mix well. Let the mask cool and then apply it to the face and body, with your hands or with a brush (it can be the silicone ones or the cat’s tongue). Let it act for 20 minutes and rinse well with warm water. Finish moisturizing the skin with a cream of your choice. It is worth remembering that this mask must be made with an interval of at least 15 days, as excessive use can make the skin oily and cause acne.
In this video I teach you step by step how to use the chocolate mask:
