Stylist teaches how to reuse wedding dresses

There is a dilemma surrounding wedding dresses: there is always that question whether it is worth buying a piece that will only be worn once, to then be placed as a showcase inside the closet, until, perhaps, the next generation.

Although renting is more comfortable for most women’s pockets, purchasing the suit for yourself is much more advantageous.

Juliana Santosbridal stylist, explained that there are several ways to reuse the special garment.

“There are brides, for example, who take advantage of the material of the dress to create others from it and use it on special occasions such as wedding anniversary, maternity shoot. I even had a client who did this! There are brides who save to make them every year a photo, either inside the dress, or on the side, to show the evolution of the couple. There are brides who keep it for their daughters. It’s a more sentimental issue, after all, it’s not just any dress, it’s a wedding dress”said.

For the stylist, the opportunities are endless. With creativity, it is possible to customize anything, even a dress with so much affective memory. She told about the case of one of her clients who got married in 2015 and that she reused the dress twice.

“She brought the dress, we took the entire skirt off the dress and from the lace and fabric of the skirt, we increased it, created another little body and we made this maternity nightgown for her. She used the same piece in her hair, which she wore at the wedding , as well as the same earring, creating a family history. And now, recently, Luna, her daughter, was baptized, and, once again, we used the rest of the lace, in the little one’s dress, I just put some colorful details, just to bring a more childlike identity”he explained.

If the concern is to use something that no longer corresponds to what is successful these days, Ju says that the key term is personal style. From upcycling fashion (when we create a new outfit from an existing one), it is able to arrive at results that please all tastes.

“I’ve had brides come to me to adapt their mother’s dress, who was married in the 70s/80s, to her personal style. So if the fabrics are of good quality or well kept, it’s super possible to adapt them in different ways in the future.” , he said.

Ways to reuse the fabric/dress

To make life easier for those who are still concerned about reusing the dress, Juliana Santos presented four new ways to reuse the dress and even use it in other special moments: maternity rehearsal, wedding celebrations, keeping it for the children and even create a part from scratch.

“I had a bride who made a jacket, took the lining fabric, made the base of the dress and the lace, she applied it making the details of the cuff and the collar, to wear on wedding anniversaries”, finished.
