Dermatologist warns that excesses can lead to vision problems and irreversible eyelash fall
How healthy is the quest to improve our image? This is a question that does justice to the moment we are living, as we are often faced with a series of miraculous solutions promising instant effect. At first, these treatments seem to be a great way out, but in the long run, they can offer risks and irreversible damage, as is the case with eyelash extension thread by thread.
Damage caused by excess
The technique has become very popular and promises to fill gaps, increase volume and improve curvature, highlighting the look. However, over time, it is common to notice that people tend to always want more. “The problem with exaggeration is that people start to find their natural appearance strange and end up seeking the procedure more often, without respecting the maintenance time or exaggerating the amount of threads, which overloads the mobile eyelid, can make the eyes gain a tired appearance and even reduce the visual field”, explains Geisa Costa, dermatologist.
Be careful when applying
Another issue is the safety of the glue used in the procedure; There are always accidents where patients have allergic reactions and their eyes are glued together. “When used in large quantities or incorrectly, the glue can cause permanent damage, as this product is based on various chemical components, such as heavy metals, which cause not only irritation, but also partial or total loss of eyelashes and changes in vision”, warns Geisa Costa, clinical director and founder of the Art Beauty Center (São Paulo and Uberaba/MG), who warns: “it is very important to be careful when choosing the place and the specialist who will perform the procedure, as well as as the maintenance period. And don’t try to replicate the technique at home.”
health first
For those who don’t give up voluminous lashes, there are other ways to conquer them. “For problems like insufficient growth and/or failures, the dermatologist can prescribe topical medications, which are tested and have proven efficacy. And, to top it off, you can bet on cosmetics, such as eyelash masks, that contain strengthening actives”, concludes the specialist, who is a member of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Dermatology and a member of the Brazilian Laser Society.
