Experts answer the main questions and give tips for treating wires
Hair care is a subject that usually generates many questions. Therefore, Adriano Almeida, dermatologist and trichologist, and Luiz Cintra, hair stylist, answered some of the most common questions on the subject. Check out!
1. Does dandruff only affect oily hair?
Adriano Almeida: no. Dry or normal hair can have “dry dandruff”, a flaking condition also known as dandruff.
2. Does tying your hair break the strands?
Adriano Almeida: Yes. Especially in people with curly hair, if the tie is too strong, it can lead to a hair loss called traction alopecia.
3. Does the hair get used to frequent use of the same shampoo?
Adriano Almeida: no. What can happen is, after repeated washes, the shampoo “sticks” to the hair. So, after some time, it is important to use an anti-residue product in order to remove the shampoo build-up.
4. Is washing your hair with cold water better than hot water?
Adriano Almeida: the ideal temperature to not remove the protection of the wires is 22ºC. So, if possible, it’s better to keep the shower more cold than hot.
5. About hydration, what are the ideal type and periodicity for each type of hair?
Luiz Cintra: hydrations are indicated for all hair types, but it is up to the professional to suggest the best product for each case. In general, repeating the procedure at the beauty salon every 20 days and using a care product at home will keep your hair in order and healthier in everyday life.
6. In the case of dry hair, what precautions should be taken when dyeing?
Luiz Cintra: care is the same for all types of hair. It is recommended not to wash the strands for a couple of days before coloring, as the oiliness of the scalp helps to protect both the scalp and the strand. Next, the ideal is to do a good post-color hydration and maintain the strands at home with the help of a mask. These procedures will make your hair healthier and look good.
7. Is sleeping with wet hair bad?
Adriano Almeida: yes, because humidity is a condition for the proliferation of fungi in the wires.
8. Is it true that dyeing your hair reduces oiliness?
Luiz Cintra: nowadays, cosmetics companies are using more and more modern colorings, which are less harmful to the threads. However, they still remain a chemical with some side effects. If it is a permanent coloring, for example, the product affects the structure of the hair; so it dries the thread a little more.
The oiliness is in the scalp and, depending on the structure of the thread, it absorbs more or less this oiliness from the scalp. We can conclude that coloring, no matter how cosmetic it may be, still dries out the hair and, in cases of oily scalp, it does help to reduce hair oiliness. However, the scalp will continue to be oily if we do not apply an efficient treatment.
