Rafaella Tumaillustrator of BBB23was accused of recreational racism.
It all started when the artist shared a “meme” that showed the conversation between her friends.
“Friend, I’m suffering because of a boy.”,said the first. The second replied: “Send a photo, let me see the boy.”.
In the image, a black man appeared, squatting, shirtless, wearing a cap and sunglasses, smoking in front of a brick wall.
“Why are you suffering? Did he steal from you?”answered one of the friends.
By publishing this, Rafaella was accused of recreational racism on social networks.
Recreational racism consists of a type of prejudice that is disguised as “humor” and associates a person’s characteristic with something inferior.
Upon seeing the repercussions of the case, the illustrator, who has a permanent spot on the reality show, deleted the publication and apologized.
“You have to admit your mistakes, see that they were grotesque and try to apologize”she said in a video.
Rafaella continued: “When I got this meme, I got it from the guy himself. The guy in the picture is an actor and comedian. He took a picture of himself and he made fun of himself. I’m not running away from my mistake. I know I shouldn’t have shared it, that this brings a huge problem, a very negative message, by all stereotypes, and in reality, I was very angry with myself for not having seen such an obvious filter that was wrong.”.
“And I sincerely apologize for that. My page will have a lot more filter going forward, that’s for sure. Sorry.”finished.
