After an all-minimalist era, it’s time for maximalist decor to have its moment. Colorful furniture, mirrors in different frames and fun objects around the house are some of the features that mark this aesthetic. However, after all, how to implement this style of decoration in your home?
“The maximalist decoration can be confused with tackiness by many, but, in the right measure, with furniture and accessories that help to enter into this aesthetic, it is possible to create a more fun environment, less serious and neutral, with more life; is a trend that has been coming after we had the boom of minimalism”, explains the architect Juliana Barros.
1. Repurpose elements
Reusing elements in the decor can be the key to this type of trend. “We can think of several creative ways to bring lightness and fun to a place. Reusing old items we have at home is an excellent way to use creativity when decorating. An old chair or galosh can become a potted plant, for example”, explains Juliana Barros.
2. Plan of the moment
In landscaping, maximalism arrives with the elephant’s ear, the plant that is booming on social networks; his fans are spread among the more than 50000# of the Instagram. In the wave of large indoor plants, this species, from the araceae family, like the Adam’s rib, draws attention.
“This species needs light or half-shade bathing, requiring four to six hours of direct light per day. 4. Psychedelic rugs
Carpets can also be used in this type of decoration. “One of the main accessories that help compose the maximalist environment is the colorful rug, with a pattern, with a more lively tone. It will make the room look more fun, which is one of the main proposals of the maximalist aesthetic, but it also makes the environment charming and elegant, since the rug is not always seen in homes”, explains the architect.
5. Mix of prints
In the eyes of many, mixing prints can mean a lack of sense of style, but it is one of the main pillars to enter the maximalist aesthetic. Juliana Barros states that this can be done in several ways, with the painted wall in stripes next to the rug with a checkered print or with a rug with a zebra print and pillows with polka dots. It is also possible to use pictures with drawings in the environment.
“The greatest care when composing with various prints is to pay attention to their background. The big tip here is to use backgrounds that are within the same color palette, that way the prints will talk to each other, even if they are very different. Another important concern is the choice of themes. It is important to adopt a theme [tropical, por exemplo] and follow it, regardless of the print you use”, he guides.
6. Fun Items
Here, using creativity is the big secret. “It has several accessories for the environment that help to create a more relaxed atmosphere, such as the picture with the (iconic) tongue, which is the acronym of the Rolling Stones band; [você] you can use colorful and wave-shaped vases, in which you can place plants inside. The LED sign has been very successful and is a great option to add to the room. Do it with words or phrases that have a meaning for you, many girls write ‘girl power’, for example”, indicates the architect.
The interior designer and decorator Georgia Guedes says: “old records, shoes and bags, cushions, books, or even souvenirs that we bring as souvenirs from a special trip can start to compose a fun and creative environment. Here, the idea is to unleash creativity”.
7. Take care
Despite being a beautiful trend, you need to be careful when to decorate. The architect claims that wrong colors, accessories placed in the wrong places, improper lighting can disturb those in the environment. This, in turn, can impair attention if someone wants to read, study, or work in the room.
