In 2023, Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter on April 16th. And for Catholics, it falls on April 9th.

Easter is one of the most important religious holidays in Ukraine, celebrated annually in late April or early May by both Orthodox and Greek Catholics. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated on this day.

Easter in Ukraine is a family holiday, often associated with various traditions and rituals. One of the most popular rituals is the coloring of eggs.

Another traditional ritual is the dedication of the Easter basket, which consists of Easter eggs, bread, salt, sausage, cheese, butter, herbs and other products. After consecration, these products are considered sacred and used for family dinner.

There are also folk signs for Easter, for example:

  • If Easter is frosty, you should expect a bountiful harvest.

  • If it is hot during Easter, then in sunny summer.

  • A cloudy day for Easter – in a cold summer.

  • Easter rain – to a rainy spring.

What not to do on Easter:

  • Until Sunday morning you cannot eat non-lean dishes.
