Know the benefits of food reeducation

Skipping meals and eating a lot of pasta, sweets and fried foods are some of the wrong habits that we end up acquiring throughout our lives. In addition to getting fat, these habits can cause various damage to health. Food reeducation, on the other hand, serves to modify such practices and make life healthier. As a consequence, it is common to reduce measures, as the main cause of fat accumulation is poor diet.

Objectives of nutritional education

According to nutritionist Roberta Stella, food reeducation is a lifestyle that can be used to maintain, gain or eliminate weight. For each of these goals, only the amount of calories is adjusted.

“Food reeducation is used to improve the quality of food. In this way, wrong habits, such as eating sweets every day, not having specific times for meals, not consuming fruits and vegetables and consuming foods rich in fat and refined products, should be corrected”, he explains.

Consequences of bad habits

Nutritionist Natália Colombo explains that people need to be re-educated because they create bad eating habits throughout their lives. “These bad habits do not only result in weight gain, but also several health problemssuch as increased levels of triglycerides and cholesterol and/or other diseases related to food, such as cancer, atherosclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s”, he warns.

gradual process

It’s important to keep in mind that this is a long process, like any habit. When you start practicing physical exercises, for example, this happens gradually. With food, it’s also like that. It’s no use wanting to change everything from one day to the next.

“And, being aware of the importance of good nutrition, the stimulus and motivation to change are greater. It is important to remember that food re-education works on both the food and behavioral aspects”, adds nutritionist Roberta Stella.

You don’t have to stop eating what you like.

In this learning process, you don’t need to stop eating what you like, but learn to control the quantities. “In fact, in food reeducation, people start to like other foods. It is necessary to demystify that healthy eating is boring and tasteless”, says Roberta Stella.

Natália Colombo adds that the intention is to teach people to eat right. “There is no restriction, unless the person has a health problem, such as diabetes, and needs to cut some food group. But the important thing in this phase is to teach the person to have a healthy and regulated diet and eventually eat a sweet or pasta… But always pointing out that this should be the exception, not the rule”, highlights the NCNutre nutritionist.

re-educate to lose weight

The goal of food reeducation is not necessarily to lose weight, but to have a healthy diet for life. However, weight loss ends up occurring as a consequence. “This will depend a lot on the person and the type of diet they follow. But it is common that, especially in the first month of re-education, the person loses 2 to 3 kg”, points out Natália Colombo. According to nutritionist Fernanda Alves, one of the explanations for weight loss is the increase in vitamins and minerals present in natural foods that regulate the body.
