5 myths and truths about diets

Diets and weight loss are issues that always generate a series of doubts in people, as the vast majority do not have information about the nutritional properties of foods and how they can be used to their advantage. To clarify some of them, nutritionist Ana Carolina Icó prepared a list of myths and truths. Check it out below:

1. Is it possible to eliminate belly fat in 2 days?

MYTH. No diet will promote the elimination of abdominal fat in a short period of time, especially in a healthy way. It is important to emphasize that during the weight loss process there is a decrease in body fat, this reduction occurs in different parts of the body, and not only in a single part, such as the abdomen.

Therefore, during weight loss, it takes a few weeks for the reduction in measurements to be visible. Another factor to be considered is that in crash dietslike the types that promise weight loss in a short time, the restriction of nutrients is too great.

2. Does using coconut oil to prepare food help burn fat and promote satiety?

MYTH. As a relatively new product, coconut oil does not yet have the effects of its long-term consumption fully known. In addition, there is not enough scientific evidence to guarantee the effectiveness of the oil in promoting satiety or contributing to weight lossboth added to culinary preparations and when consumed alone.

3. Does changing traditional bread and pasta for whole-grain versions help you lose weight?

TRUE. whole foods arefiber sources. These nutrients, in addition to contributing to the smooth functioning of the intestine, help to promote the feeling of satiety, favoring weight loss. Staying full for a longer period helps to avoid overeating.

4. Does consumption of foods classified as antioxidants help you lose weight?

MYTH. The antioxidants present in these foods they help prevent premature aging of the skin and protect cardiovascular health, due to their properties to fight free radicals that damage cells. However, there is no direct relationship between antioxidants and weight loss.

5. Does consuming food every three hours help you lose weight?

TRUE. Divide the feed into 5 to 6 meals throughout the day promotes satiety. When going for long periods without eating, there is an accumulation of the sense of hunger, causing a decrease in food consumption control, favoring excesses.
