Each season of the year usually has its particularities, such as the most suitable meals and drinks to be consumed. In the summer, lighter dishes such as salads and drinks served chilled are great options for those looking to align the pleasure of enjoying a meal with the desire to cool off.
When talking about drinks, many soon think of beer or drinks like caipirinha and gin, as they are usually associated with summer. But there is a classic, quite versatile option that goes perfectly with this season: the wineideal drink in the colder seasons, but which also combines perfectly with the heat.
“For each season of the year there is a type of most recommended winebut there is no rule, that is, the person can taste the wine they want and the way they prefer at any time”, says Ricardo Henriques, oenologist at Rio Sol (a winery that produces wines and sparkling wines, in the São Francisco Valley, in the city of Lagoa Grande, in Pernambuco).
Sparkling wine for all occasions
The sparkling wines are quite indicated to be savored in the summer. Although many think it is a wine only for special occasions or more formal events, it is quite democratic and can be enjoyed on the beach or in similar places.
With toasted aromas and high acidity, it undergoes two natural fermentations: one happens with all wines and makes the grape sugar turn into alcohol, and the other is responsible for generating the famous pimples. “The demi-sec sparkling wine harmonizes with dishes consumed in the summer such as seafood. A sweet sparkling wine goes well with fruit desserts”, stresses Henriques.
Chilled white wine
Known for being light, aromatic and refreshing, the wine white also matches perfectly with warmer days. It has a yellowish color and, in some cases, almost colorless. The ideal consumption temperature ranges from 6°C to 8°C, and the lighter, the lower the temperature.
“If in doubt about the ideal wine temperature, check the label, as some companies indicate on the packaging how it should be served”, points out Henriques. Due to its versatility, it combines with fish, cheeses and white meats.
Rosé wine is a great joker
Another highly recommended option, great for summer consumption, is rosé wine. Aromatic, fresh and light, it is considered a wine that is in the middle ground between red and white, since it has the freshness and fruity touch of white wines and the structure of reds.
Refreshing and perfect to be consumed chilled, it is a joker when it comes to summer and wine. “The most indicated cup at the time of serve the wine rosé is a smaller glass, which manages to maintain freshness, and with a more open bowl, to highlight the flavors and aromas”, says Henriques.
For those who like to gather friends for a more relaxed get-together, one option is to serve rosé wine with a cold cuts board with chestnuts, olives and white cheese.
Longer chilled wine
Because of the summer, consumers insist on enjoying drinks at very low temperatures. Therefore, many people tend to have doubts about whether there is a trick capable of keeping the bottle cold longer or chill the wine in a short period.
If the idea is to put the bottle in a cooler, it needs to be between layers of ice. If it’s in a bucket, the tip is to put some water to freeze faster. “To have a better experience with wine in the summer, if it is consumed during the day, the ideal is to put the bottle in the fridge the night before”, concludes Henriques.
