Juliana Vieira also explained what should be consumed by those who go from one block to another
Street Carnival is back in the main capitals of Brazil. And those who are excited to jump the blocks first thing in the morning should pay attention to what they eat. the nutritionist Juliana Vieira advised what should be ingested by revelers.
“Easy-to-digest foods are best suited for pre-revelry. Prefer whole grains. When choosing fats, opt for those that have vegetable origin, such as avocado, soy and coconut oils, which are healthier and help to reduce ‘bad cholesterol’. Fruits with a high water content, such as watermelon, melon, pineapple and orange, for example, are great options, and can be consumed in natura, such as juices”highlighted.
Partygoers are excited! And what to eat between blocks? The nutritionist indicated: “Lighter foods, which are easily digestible and help replenish water and mineral salts, lost due to the natural increase in perspiration, such as coconut water, protein bars, in natura chips, carbohydrate gels”.
Juliana said that the recommendation to drink two liters of water a day, in the summer, can be higher. “Water, natural juices and iced tea are essential. Ice cream, sorbets and ice cream: all of them, preferably without sugar, also hydrate and help to refresh”completed.
Foods with a high fat content or difficult to digest should not be consumed before Carnival events.
“Avoid greasy or heavy seasonings, such as mayonnaise, bacon, ready-to-eat sauces, etc. Fatty meats, certain legumes such as beans, chickpeas, which are difficult to digest”, scored.
To have a lot of energy, Juliana recommends caffeine-based drinks: “Or some natural stimulant like ginger, cinnamon or pepper.”
As for the hangover, the nutritionist said that prevention is the best medicine.
“A hangover is always better to prevent than to cure. One way to solve it would be to make the organism quickly metabolize ethanol. For a good metabolization, alcohol recruits some specific substances, such as B vitamins, magnesium and zinc (present in chicken and lentils). Therefore, a good strategy would be to ingest these nutrients on the days when you are going to drink too much. And I like to prescribe a plant called milk thistle, which contains a flavonoid called silymarin. Silymarin inhibits the free radicals that are created after the metabolization of toxic substances such as alcohol and acetaminophen”finished.
