Things were discovered by accident in the 2000s. They were found in a landfill, and are now up for auction.
Rare pieces of art and personal belongings of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher have been found in the UK. The New York Post writes about it.
Some of the items were recently put up for auction. It is still unknown how exactly the “iron lady” items ended up in the landfill.
At the same time, experts argue that many of them have an interest in history.
“Normally, storage companies remove the contents of warehouses when they close accounts. But this collection has become historical objects,” said experts.
Among those recovered was a 56 cm tall bronze plaster bust of President Ronald Reagan. It cost $850 and sold for $11,000.
A rare black and white photo of Thatcher was also found. He appeared surrounded by soldiers in gas masks with machine guns in their hands. The caption on the photo reads: “Mrs. Thatcher from 22 SAS Regt.”
In addition, a painting of Margaret Thatcher was found, where she sits in a blue dress on a green armchair.
“From a true friend and admirer with heartfelt wishes on your birthday, October 13, 1995,” reads the painting’s caption.
