Remember how everything happened so that Gloria Maria was the first journalist to go live on ‘Jornal Nacional’
Gloria Maria made history! The journalist, who died of cancer this Thursday, the 2nd, was a great milestone and inspiration for the universe of national communication.
In addition to bringing representativeness to the small screen, the communicator was a pioneer in several facts of Brazilian journalism.
Among them, she was the first reporter to go live on the National Newspaper, from TV Globo.
It was 1977 when the newspaper decided to take a risk and put a journalist to enter “live and in color” on the small screens of Brazilians.
Gloria showed the movement of cars leaving Rio de Janeiro during a weekend.
During an interview with the Memória Globo project, the journalist recalled this iconic day and told a curiosity about the moment: she had to improvise minutes before going on air.
The journalist said that one of the equipment’s lights burned out, so she had to use the station’s car light.
“When the lightbulb burned out, there was one minute left for the live entrance. The solution was to turn on the light in Veraneio”, said.
Gloria said that she and the cameraman had to kneel down so that the headlamp was in her face and the lighting worked.
