Yana’s parents, despite her requests to leave the city, did not want to leave, despite all the horrors of the war.
JerryHeil did not recognize his hometown when he first returned to Vasilkov after the liberation of the Kyiv region from the Russian invaders. He said this in an interview with Grigory Reshetnik for the YouTube project “Yak Ti?”.
At the end of February and in March 2022, during the battles in the Kyiv region, Vasilkov was one of the centers of events. This happened after the invaders could not land their troops in Gostomel. The local airport was completely destroyed in the city, and the housing sector was also affected: private and apartment buildings, shops and playgrounds were destroyed. In the northern neighborhood of Vasilkov, in the village of Kryachki, a fire broke out in an oil depot.
“I drove into a bombed-out city. Our school, lyceum, was destroyed. The whole city. It is so mutilated. It feels like it really is some kind of parallel reality, this cannot be that someone just came and wiped it off the face of the earth city, leaving devastation there. It hurts a lot,” shared the singer.
Despite the constant bombing, the artist’s parents did not want to leave.
“I tried to take a few steps away to move them somewhere. I saw people ready to evacuate them. These people started calling them: “I’ll take you out, there, to our village.” No . . . Just a completely accurate answer. I realize that this is their choice, they made that decision for themselves and maybe I need to somehow rely on them, because they are conscious people adult,” commented the performer.
It was previously reported that Jerry Heil was the winner of the Music Moves Europe Awards and received a Public Choice Award nomination.
