Understanding one’s emotions is essential to deal with frustrations and to assimilate knowledge
We can no longer bear to turn on the television and come across a report about a person who, faced with any situation, has lost his balance. Scenes like these are becoming more and more common in cities. We see this in supermarket queues, banks and in different situations in life – people, supposedly tired of waiting or being charged for something, lose their minds and resort to verbal and/or physical aggression.
It is important to remember that all these types of violence often fall into other boxes called prejudice or crime. People who, because they are not attended to the way they expect, invade the place of the other and start to offend him for his sexuality and appearance.
Lack of balance in modern society
On social networks, the problem is even greater, as there are still those who believe they are incognito in front of people and, in this case, the criteria for aggression are absolute savagery. And, faced with so many findings, we question: is the world crazy? People are losing balance?
The answer to all these questions is: “yes, it can be!”. In fact, today we witness scenes of aggression like in no other time of the Modern Era. We know about wars, barbarities and human massacres, but I am referring here to the violence and aggressiveness of social life, of daily relationships between peers, between human beings.
Cases of violence and aggressiveness against women, for example, femicide, are constant. The father does not take care of the son and attacks him. The daughter can’t handle the mother and attacks her, and whoever is attacked learns to attack, expanding the cycle, and a society based on savagery is being built… There is a lack of coherence, as well as balance and consideration in human relationships.
Factors that cause emotional imbalance
Some still credit this scenario to the dismantling of family and social values – this is also true. If I don’t have the perception that the other has his space exactly as I do, or want mine, violence and aggressiveness in the face of conflict are even legitimized. Like these humans values of sharing, solidarity, collectivity begin in a family, if it does not exist, where would such values begin?
Finally, I cannot fail to mention here that there is still stress, a factor that is also preponderant in the scenes of imbalance that we witness. Faced with these situations, we came to the conclusion that it is urgent to rethink the issues of violence and aggression that permeate our society at this time.
Man’s attitude to the world
Taking the pathological questions out of understanding, because they need medical support and government programs to combat them, the questions that make me apprehensive revolve around our attitude towards the world.
I remind you here that man is born a mammal and, throughout the first life conditionscan follow two paths: that of animalization – a path in which whoever, by instinct, has more strength and bravery will survive – or the path of humanization, in which those who have more compassion, understanding and altruism will win without psychic suffering, enabling harmony to the around.
Ways to deal with emotional imbalance
We need to relearn the basic rules for dealing with frustrations. Currently, many children and teenagers cannot deal with the fact that their parents do not want to buy a new cell phone, and adults cannot live with the frustrations of not being able to buy a car or go on a trip that they so desire, for example.
If there are no resources for people to deal with frustrations, which are inherent in life, it is a sign that there is no strength and empowerment, so necessary for the journey of life. Anything that is or appears different from what we expect will not annihilate us, on the contrary, it will strengthen us.
Let us therefore focus on all types of conflicts face to face, with courage, promptness and without procrastination. Let us live intensely whatever the event of life and, later on, we will realize how much living is related to learning. And, to learn, to absorb knowledge, it is necessary to have balance.
