In this country, the most famous holiday in the world is celebrated twice: according to the Gregorian calendar (on the night of January 1) and according to the eastern one, the date of which changes.

The New Year does not start at the same time on January 1 in all countries. And in China, it even begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice. So Chinese New Year 2023 starts on 22nd January and ends on 9th February. According to Kyiv time, it will be 18:00 on January 21.

The festival itself will take place from January 21 to January 27. All these days will be public holidays. Heavy traffic is expected on local roads, and shops and banks will not be open.

Chinese New Year 2023 – the history of the holiday

According to legend, in ancient times, the terrible monster Nian appeared in China twice a year. It lived under the sea, and when it came out of the land, it brought death and destruction with it, robbing houses and killing animals.

But one day, Nian entered the village and was frightened by the children wearing red clothes. Since then, the Chinese have used this technique to scare away evil spirits on New Year’s Eve. They use red everywhere – in flashlights and fireworks.

The Chinese also consider the New Year to be the beginning of spring. They believe that on this day nature awakens and life flourishes.

Chinese New Year – traditions and customs

This holiday in China is celebrated very beautifully and brightly: with fireworks, crackers, lanterns, dances and masquerades. Since the color red is considered lucky, they wear it and decorate the house. And also – on New Year’s Eve in China they give out red envelopes with money.

The festival lasts for about two weeks. Before that, the Chinese clean the house and gather for a family dinner, where all the relatives try to go.

On New Year’s Eve, it is customary to stay up late and set off fireworks. And then offer to the ancestors. People visit each other and eat special rice cakes.

patron saint of 2023 according to the chinese calendar

There are 12 animal signs of the zodiac in the Chinese horoscope. Each year is dedicated to one of the animals, as well as one of the five elements. This year’s patron is the Water Rabbit. By the way, the next such year is 2035.

The Chinese believe that if this is your patron, then the year will be special and lucky, although they do not deny that fate can “throw” trials.

As you know, the Water Rabbit is delicate, friendly and tactful in nature. He respects other people’s personal space. But he also easily adapts to changes, although he is not very confident in himself and does not have clear principles in life. In front, he has family and comfort.
