Health authorities are becoming more and more persistent.autumn reminderlaunched on October 3 against Covid-19 for vulnerable people and healthcare professionals. Several voices have been raised in recent days to encourage interested French people to get their booster dose as soon as possible.
“It takes you 5 minutes and it will protect you, limit the risk of complications and hospitalization“Thus, Olivier Verany urged on Thursday, lamenting the extremely low number of people at risk on their booster doses to date. “It’s still absolutely absurd, we have means to protect ourselves, but the French are not vaccinated“, – laments the Minister of Health Francois Brown in an interview with BFMTV. “The target people are the same as with the flu and Covid– reminded the minister.
Worried?
You are one of the first people and therefore you are meant to receive this booster dose as soon as possible. To this day, all French people over the age of 5 are invited to complete the vaccination schedule; two doses of the vaccine three weeks apart, then an additional dose within the next three to six months, except for people who are already infected with Covid-19. and therefore one less dose is needed.
Among French people who already have a full vaccination schedule and who have received a booster dose, a fourth dose (second dose) is also encouraged:
- people over 60 years old;
- residents of nursing homes or long-term care units;
- people at risk of severe form (immune deficiency, pregnant women or patients that affect the immune system);
- those who live in the vicinity of the above mentioned people;
- health or healthcare professionals.
This second booster vaccination campaign started in the spring, but all these people are now being urged to get a new booster (the fifth dose) in the fall, or at least the fourth dose if they haven’t already received the second booster. Obviously, a fall booster dose is recommended for all people at risk and for health care professionals, regardless of the number of previous doses received.
“Anyone can be vaccinated.”
Francois Brown, Minister of Health
Francois Brown also clarified that no person who asks to receive a booster dose and does not present any contraindications can be refused the vaccine. So, people who don’t fall into the above categories can also opt to receive a fall reminder.everyone can be vaccinated“, said the minister.
When to do this booster dose?
Health authorities recommend that people 80 and older, residents of nursing homes or USLDs, and immunocompromised people receive this booster dose three months after the last dose. For all others, a booster dose can be administered six months after the last dose.
What about people who have recently contracted Covid-19? Should they do a recall too? “In case of recent infection with Covid-19, a 3-month period should be allowed between infection and booster dose.“, says the page dedicated to the new vaccination campaign on the website servicepublic.fr.
2 million booster doses since October
According to health authorities, 2 million people received a booster shot against Covid-19 last Monday since the launch of the bivalent vaccine booster campaign on October 3. Of those, 1.8 million people have been injected with such vaccines, which target both the original strain and the Omicron strain of Covid. To date, 60.2% of French people have a complete vaccination schedule with a booster dose.

Seniors are the most relevant, with 40% of 60-80 year olds and 20% of over 80 year olds. However, the minister thinks soinsufficient” these numbers and specifically called on the directors of the medical units where these at-risk people reside to encourage and facilitate the fall recall campaign.
Reinforce mask wearing

The French really need to protect themselvesin the interview he regretted Sunday newspaper (JDD).
