Police say Congressman Madison Coatorn (RNC) was charged with attempting to carry a gun at a checkpoint at North Carolina’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Tuesday.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the weapon was found in a bag during TSA security checks.
Police seized the gun and issued a subpoena from Cotorn for possession of a dangerous firearm in city possession, in violation of a municipal ordinance. The far -right MP was then released, which police said was “normal procedure”.
Cawthorn did not immediately respond to a request for comment from HuffPost.
This is the second time Carthage has been caught attempting to deliver a gun through airport security. In February 2021, he was stopped by security at Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina as he tried to board a plane carrying an empty pistol and a magazine full of ammunition in his handbag.
He said in a statement it was just a mistake and explained that he often uses a carry-on bag to carry guns and ammunition when not traveling.
The recent meeting at Cawthorn airport adds news that has nothing to do with politics.
Last week, Politics posted photos of Cawthorn wearing lingerie. Cawthorn, who propagates “traditional” gender values, dismissed the photos as “silly holiday photos”.
In March, a North Carolina State Highway patrol posted a video showing how it cleared a traffic stop on March 3rd.
