How microplastics are changing our gut microbiota

With a global production of 367 million tons in 2020, plastic is everywhere. And 81% of them become waste after one year. Often released into nature, they break down into microplastics, tiny plastic particles that are dispersed into the environment and can end up on our plates, such as in bottled water and seafood. A study published in 2021 found that the world’s population swallowed an average of 14. up to 700 mg of microplastic per day per person.
